The ALPINE section

Treasures of the Alps and International Collectors' Meeting:

Be inspired by the enthusiasm and stories of Alpine gem hunters and collectors.

The hidden treasures of the Alps, right by our front door, can be admired in the Alpine Section in Hall A5. Selected hunters and collectors of Alpine minerals are showing their old and new finds, from the smallest emerald to the largest quartz. Some stones are interchanged with a story on the find location and the circumstances of the owner's find. The area is in demand as a collectors' meeting place. The collectors exchange their news surrounded by up to 40 collectors' cases.

Alpine minerals from different parts of South Tyrol form the heart of this year's Alpine Section: as part of the Munich Mineral Show, the "Landesverband der Mineralien- und Fossiliensammlervereine Südtirols LMF" is showing around 300 of the most beautiful mineral pieces under the motto "From the mountain to the display case", which were found in the Tyrolean mountains. The impressive pieces come from different, predominantly private collections. Mineral collecting has a long tradition in South Tyrol. Nowhere else has so many different minerals in such a small area. The exhibition is supplemented by background information on the mineral's exciting journey from the mountain to the display case.

Enormous Crystals from Switzerland
Gem hunters are mountain climbers, who mine crystals from steep mountain walls. The Swiss professional hunter Franz von Arx made a truly sensational find. In 2008, he discovered enormous crystals in a cave on the Planggenstock at a height of over 2,400 metres. You can marvel at the largest crystal group from this chasm, each over 350 kg in weight, at Munich and can speak to the lucky man himself.
